I was shocked and terribly saddened to hear of Bill's passing. The worlds of fishing and mystery

A man of simple prose and style, a great story teller and a totally committed fly fisherman in his heart.I will truely miss my favorite author. The world would be a better place if there were more William Tapply's!!

Rest In Peace, Bill. I feel like I've grown up with you and your Dad teaching me the stuff I needed to know. Long ago I learned through you to arrive at water's edge with my flyrod and simply sit, watch and listen; that quiet observation and contemplation of the possibilities before the line is wet are the essence of our sport. An icon has left us, but has not left us unaffected.

My friend Bill will always be remembered as a person of excellence -husband, father, acadamian, author, sportsman - all at a unique and superior level. I remember Bill first and foremost as a friend. Bill and his family lived down the street and around the corner when my family moved to Lexington in 1948. Our friendship started at Tower Park playing pickup football, baseball, or whatever and has nurtured ever since. We went our separate ways after high school but maintained our friendship. We
shared a competitive spirit and a unmatched level of admiration. I wish I could write and Bill confided in me that he always wanted to be a pilot. You will be missed Bill, God speed !
