My deepest condolences.
I met him only once and will treasure my copy of "Upland Days". Bill was the last link to the glory days of Grouse Hunting in New England. I'm sure he is telling tales with his Father Tap and to Burt Spiller now. Thank you Bill for carrying on the tradition of our sport and for describing it so beautifully.

I learned of Bill's death a few minutes ago from a mutual friend, Kate Mattes. I am truly grieving: Bill was a wonderful man, a superb writer, and a cherished friend for decades. Vicki, dear, my deepest sympathies.

My condolences to the family of William Tapply. I've read every mystery he's ever written, and I feel like I've lost an old family friend. This is the first time I've visited the website, and after reading his Boston Globe obit, as well as this website, I'm heartened to know that he was a kind and decent human being who brought pleasure to thousands of readers.
